PROCESS/ CLOSE UPS:
GARDAI RADIOS: These were made of MDF board. We cut out the shapes (as shown above), and created a mechanism for the button which involved a spring, dowel and pin. We then added the detail with strips of plastic and a wire.
SWORDS: For this, we 3D printed the blades. After cleaning them up, we put a metal rod down the centre for stability and weight. The Crossguard was also 3D printed, the hilt was made of wood and wrapped in faux leather, and the pommel was made of wood and plastic.
SCABBARDS: These were half scabbards (as requested by the costume designer), and needed to be sturdy. We flattened out a PVC pipe and lined the inside with felt to prevent any damage to the paint on the blade. We then added felt to the outside, using it for the attachment points and any details. To create the leather texture, we tinted latex and added in onto the felt in thin layers.
CIVIC REGALIA: For the repeated madallions around the length of the necklace, we sculpted them out of clay, and made a mould to cast them in resin. The main two medallions were 3D printed. The face was scultped with milliput. We then drilled holes into each medallion and added chain to attach them together.
