PROCESS:
FLOOR: After applying our base and labelling each sheet, we alligned them on the floor of the studio in order to map out the shapes. Once these were mased out, we used Idenden mixed with sawdust for a textured effect. We then used three different washes and blended them into eachother. Once we could get the floor into the studio, we used mirror film to fill in the shapes we masked out previously.
OUTER ELEVATOR WALL: I wanted to have as much texture as possible. So for our first layer, we made a random splatter effect all over. Then after trowling on some of the grey base to break it up, we used the model box version to texture the same color in the same places.
INNER ELEVATOR WALL: For this we split the walls in half, and used a magnolia for the top half, and a mixed green for the bottom. We then used yellow ochre and raw umber washes for depth. This all had to be varnished to prevent the paint moving with the rain effect.
ELEVATOR DOORS: To create a more run down and brushed metal effect, we started with a black base, and then brushed silver vertically along the door. Then a wash for the dirst effect.
WALKWAY: After woodgraining, we trowled on some of our base coat, and splattered it with water to create a more broken down look.
BOXES: In order to create a cardboard adjacent look, we used arounf 5 layers, constisting of drybrushing the darker and lighter spots, a tinted varnish and a trowel effect.
POLES: These had a rust effect on them. We used paper-maché to create the peeling texture, and used a mix of red and purple along with our oranges and browns.
